Abstract

Assembling Valuable Data for Accelerated Formulation via Modeling and Optimization

In the era of Industry 4.0, Big Data and Digitalization, rubber manufacturers are increasingly aware that accelerated product development relies on intelligently gleaning information from the vast amounts of experimental data that is being collected by research groups. By applying modeling, simulation and numerical optimization to collected experimental data, experimentation can be reduced, knowledge can be retained, and innovation can be accelerated.

This presentation will discuss:
• structuring an experimental dataset;
• developing multivariate latent variable models;
• applying simulation to the developed model(s) to determine the expected quality of newly posed formulations; and finally
• applying optimization to the developed model(s) to determine new formulations that are expected reach all desired product quality and cost targets.

A dataset from the elastomer industry will be used throughout the presentation along with ProSensus’ FormuSense software. Successful applications of this proven approach include: the development of functional polymers for medical devices, the core materials used inside Srixon golf balls, the development of new food formulations, polyolefin development, and the reformulation of silicone antifoams.
