A new version of FormuSense has been released!
This version, referred to as the “Simulation Release“, adds brand new features allowing users to predict the outcome of new formulations by applying your developed model(s). FormuSense now also identifies the existing historical formulation that most closely matches each new simulated formulation.

Release Notes
Below is a summary of new features added and changes implemented in FormuSense as part of the version released in February 2023. This version is referred to as the Simulation Release.
What’s New
Import
- Ingredient Costs – An imported ingredient property column named “Cost” will be automatically parsed into a separate “Ingredient Costs” tab. Formulation Costs are automatically calculated and displayed in the ratios screen and Ingredient Costs are used in simulation.
- Cost for Ingredients can also be edited directly in the new Ingredient Costs tab.
Data
- New Ingredients – Ability to add new ingredients after import, from within the Ingredient Properties tab. Any ingredients that do not occur in any historical formulations are automatically excluded from model-building, but are available for use in simulation.
- Quantities – A new Process Conditions block called “Quantities” is automatically created when formulations are imported with “Quantity” as the selected units (as opposed to “Fraction” or “Percent”). This block contains one variable, which is the sum of the ingredient quantities for each formulation.
Ratios
- Cost – The class or formulation cost (sum of ingredient costs multiplied by the ingredient ratios) is included as the last column in the ratios table for each historical formulation.
Simulation
- Predict the outcome of new formulations by applying your developed model(s), and find the historical formulation that most closely matches each new simulated formulation.
- Configure up to 10 simulations with up to 10 scenarios per simulation.
- Simulation configuration: model, measurement units to be used for specifying ingredient amounts (Fraction/Percent/Quantity).
- Scenario configuration: process conditions, formulation (ingredient selection and ingredient amounts).
- View results: Review tabular and graphical summaries of all simulation results, relative to the historical formulations that were used to build the simulation’s model.
- Tables: results (predicted quality, formulation cost, model validity metrics), formulation (ingredient and ingredient class selection and amounts), process conditions, resultant mixture properties, find closest (find the historical formulation closest to each of the simulation’s scenarios).
- Plots: overview (score plot, y-predicted bar plots), details (HT2 and SPE contributions, x-variable line plots, y-variable line plots).
- Export: Simulation results can be exported to Excel directly from the simulation results screen.
What’s Changed
Data
- Quantity – In the Formulation Data Specification, the column data type option previously called “Amount” has been renamed to “Quantity”.
- Unused Ingredients – Formulations with ingredients that have amounts (Fraction/Percent/Quantity) <=0 are automatically removed from those particular Formulations.
- Data – If an ingredient property was edited for an ingredient not used in any formulation, Mixture Properties is no longer reset.
Mixture Properties
- Moved “Delete” button to the top of Global tab, and implemented +/- icons to New/Delete Global buttons.
Bug Fixes
Data
- Resolved issue that was occurring on plots when switching between blocks of data.
- Resolved issue with saving the project after an ingredient has been deleted.
- Resolved issue generating categorical variables, when there are multiple descriptor variables directly after the descriptor variable the categorical variables are being generated from.
Modeling
- Resolved issue where the BIY plots were not showing the correct values when the number of components was reduced.
- Resolved issue where the legend drawer would not update properly when switching tabs within the Modeling Analysis, while the drawer was collapsed.
