ProSensus is excited to be participating in one of the world’s largest statistical events, being held in our neighboring city of Toronto, Ontario, Canada this August.
This year’s Joint Statistical Meetings, known as JSM 2023, will take place on August 5-10, 2023. ProSensus will be hosting a workshop, giving a technical presentation, and exhibiting.
Computer Technology Workshop

ProSensus will be hosting a workshop at JSM2023 on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 from 8am – 9:45am.
The workshop is titled Applying Multivariate Modeling to Experimental Datasets for Product Development, and will be instructed by Marlene Cardin and Monica Salib. Be sure to include this CTW as an add-on when completing your JSM registration!
Professional Development Computer Technology Workshop (CTW): Applying Multivariate Modeling to Experimental Datasets for Product Development
Marlene Cardin and Monica Salib, ProSensus.
Manufacturers are continually striving to quickly formulate new or improved products at lower costs, often with fewer or alternative raw materials, all while adhering to existing manufacturing constraints. ProSensus has a proven framework to accelerate product development and provides both software and consulting services for these applications. The ProSensus approach allows manufacturers to simultaneously model, simulate, and optimize the selection of ingredients, formulations ratios and process conditions to reach targeted quality properties. Our approach utilizes existing experimental data, latent variable modeling, and constrained optimization to reach targeted quality properties faster.
This CTW will be a combination of lecture slides and a FormuSense software tutorial using a functional polymers dataset. Ahead of the CTW, all registrants will be provided instructions for downloading a 30-day trial of FormuSense and the tutorial dataset. Using their own computer, attendees may choose to perform the tutorial steps alongside ProSensus during the CTW, or they may treat the tutorial as a demonstration.
Technical Presentation
On Sunday, August 6, 2023 at 2pm, Marlene Cardin will present Using multivariate modeling, simulation and numerical optimization to accelerate new product development as part of the session called Data Science Impact on the Chemicals and Materials Sciences.
Can’t make it to Toronto? Read the abstract and leave your contact information so that we can provide you with a copy of the presentation after the conference has ended.
Using multivariate modeling, simulation and numerical optimization to accelerate new product development
Marlene Cardin, ProSensus.
1) Evaluating data-readiness for successful model-building through structuring and preprocessing. The importance of ingredient properties and mixture properties to properly characterize materials will be discussed.
2) Building predictive models with multivariate analysis (MVA) and using these models to help domain experts interpret their datasets.
3) Performing simulations from the developed model(s) to predict the outcome of proposed formulations.
4) Optimizing quality by inverting the predictive model and applying constrained numerical optimization to calculate the ideal formulation and processing conditions required to achieve a targeted quality.
