Now that we are well into the era of Digitalization and Industry 4.0, there is no disputing that data is an extremely valuable asset to manufacturers across the world.

Yet, despite significant investments in data acquisition and storage, many organizations are still struggling to effectively use their data

There can be a variety of roadblocks to getting started with data analysis. One key to success is achieving “quick-wins” to motivate the wider adoption of analytical methods within your organization.

Recently, an international oil & gas company turned to ProSensus for help to achieve such quick-wins by using their existing JMP licenses. Their overall aim was to advance their global MVA initiative to the next phase.

Recent Success with JMP

JMP is a statistical tool that most engineers can readily access with either an existing license or trial. While MVA is only a part of this broader software, JMP can be an effective tool to evaluate the use of MVA.

Our client was interested in expanding the application of MVA to drive process improvement and operational excellence initiatives across the organization.

Since all members of the client team already had access to JMP, it made sense to begin their MVA journey using this familiar tool.

Quick-Wins

ProSensus provided custom MVA training using JMP, and worked with numerous client teams on a variety of successful quick-win projects including:

  • Troubleshooting KPI drifts in process/product quality
  • Troubleshooting instability of key process parameters
  • Predicting key quality variables from available input variables (soft-sensor)
  • Finding the optimal operating point/trajectory for the process, given the current disturbances and constraints

Software Comparison

Following these analyses, ProSensus also highlighted key feature differences between JMP and AspenTech’s ProMV. Although JMP was sufficient to achieve quick-wins for this client, there are many benefits to investing in a specialized MVA tool, such as ProMV. These benefits include, but are not limited to:

  • Simplified workflow
  • Batch analysis
  • Real-time deployment
With the documentation that ProSensus provided on both the quick-win project results and advantages of a specialized MVA tool, our client was ready to address key stakeholders for further investment in MVA.

Overcoming Common Roadblocks

As a leader in industrial analytics since 2004, we have the expertise to help our clients overcome a variety of common roadblocks related to getting started with MVA. We provide tailored consulting services and are passionate about helping our clients make data-driven decisions.

Client RoadblockProSensus Solution
Unsure what data analytics approach suits your industry/application/goal.ProSensus firmly believes that multivariate analysis (MVA) should be the first step in the vast majority of analytics projects. MVA will quickly provide an overview of the data including the identification of data gaps and correlations between observations and variables.
Selected application/dataset has complexities that cause many uncertainties with modeling decisions, and ultimately, no clear results are obtained.ProSensus offers guidance in selecting “quick-win” projects that are straight-forward to execute and have the highest likelihood of success with meaningful results.
Insufficient resources to complete analysis.ProSensus offers flexible engagements to reduce your workload and get you results faster. We offer fixed-scope consulting, ad-hoc hourly coaching, custom training courses, and accelerated modeling sessions.
No access to specialized analytics software.ProSensus can be contracted to conduct your quick-win project on your behalf, using specialized software (such as ProMV).
Alternatively, ProSensus can provide custom training to coach you through conducting your own quick-win project using tools you already have access to (such as JMP).
